FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

new “Work Where you play” SITE on visitnh.gov!
--------------------------------------
Free Employment Links for New Hampshire Businesses and a Searchable Database for Visitors

CONCORD, N.H., April 11th, 2008 – You love vacationing in New Hampshire…have you ever thought about working here? That’s exactly the question the new “Work Where You Play” employment site on VisitNH.gov asks of its visitors.

The Division of Travel and Tourism Development (DTTD), in partnership with the Division of Economic Development, has just launched this new section of the website to reach out to a previously untapped market of job seekers- the millions of individuals who visit New Hampshire each year.  “By targeting an audience that is already interested in New Hampshire as a vacation destination, we hope to bring more qualified workers into the state,” said Alice DeSouza, Director of Travel and Tourism.  “VisitNH.gov receives around 2 million unique visits each year, and now “Work Where You Play” will give all of those visitors the opportunity to turn their favorite vacation destination into their very own backyard.”

New Hampshire Division of Economic Development Director Michael Vlacich said that quality of life issues are very often an important factor in determining where emerging business leaders decide to relocate. By forging a stronger link between tourism and economic development marketing, he believes that the state will be more successful in converting visitors into New Hampshire workers and future business owners.

“New Hampshire offers the best of all possible worlds, an exemplary quality of life as well as a progressive and innovative business atmosphere,” he said. “By making job search information readily available to potential visitors, we’re opening the door for workforce development and business growth. This is a great new way to not only encourage visitors, but to build our labor force in a creative way.”

Today’s announcement was made as part of the Governor’s Job Cabinet meeting. The Jobs Cabinet is a highly collaborative effort that includes the Commissioners of many state agencies and counts among its priorities the development of a workforce that can meet the challenges and opportunities of today’s and tomorrow’s industries.

All New Hampshire businesses with job opportunities can list their company on the “Work Where You Play” site free of charge.  By logging into the site, businesses will be able to post their name, location, and the types of jobs they have available, as well as a link to their own website.  Job seekers will have the ability to search listings by tourism region or job sector.  For more information, to register a business, or to access the job search site, please visit www.visitnh.gov.

Technical questions about the “Work Where You Play” program should be directed to Stacy Bell, Communications Specialist at 271-2665 x110.
