Through - October 12, Monday ~ Exhibit- “Yours Respectfully,  A. Lincoln”- A Bicentennial Homage in Letter, Word and Image - Open during Main House hours; The celebration at The Fells of Abraham Lincoln's 200th birthday reaches into New Hampshire's history of John Hay as well as of one of America's great sculptors, Augustus Saint-Gaudens. As young statesman and artist, Hay and Saint-Gaudens left written and sculpted impressions of this great American president which today provide the biographical basis of Lincoln's life and the images of him that we recognize two centuries later. Yours Respectfully, A. Lincoln  exhibited in the Main House of The Fells centers on Lincoln as a letter writer and John Hay's rare ten volume biography Abraham Lincoln: A History, written with his White House colleague, John Nicolay. A portion of the exhibition focuses on Saint-Gaudens statue of Lincoln which has become a key image most commonly associated with Lincoln's appearance. To further explain the influence of Saint-Gaudens in New Hampshire and beyond, his bust of John Hay, on loan from the Saint-Gaudens National Historic Site, is displayed.  In this birthday celebration, Lincoln, Hay and Saint-Gaudens are brought together among their letters, books and sculptures, recalling the lasting presence of The Statesman, The Author & The Artist. Throughout the 2009 period, children will be encouraged to practice the age old art of letter writing and will be invited to write to President Obama under the coordination of the Fells.  A copy of each letter will become part of the Fells Archives to commemorate Lincoln's 200th birthday and the beginning of a new President's administration and will be included in a packet of letters to our President.; www.thefells.org
